Music manifesto kicks off at Colston
A year-long project to promote music to young people across the city will be celebrated at the Colston Hall on Thursday 27th August with performances by the Bristol Philharmonia and Creative Orchestras.
The Bristol Music Manifesto was launched in September 2008 and through its partners – the Colston Hall, St George’s Bristol and Bristol Arts and Music Service – has delivered 38,000 hours of tuition, music clubs and concerts to 15,000 children across the city. The project has also linked with the Emerald Ensemble, the Philharmonia Orchestra, Remix and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment to bring music to all ages.
Cabinet Member for Children and Young People Cllr Clare Campion-Smith said:
“The Music Manifesto is a unique project for Bristol bringing together all kinds of expertise to deliver creative workshops for toddlers, children and teenagers throughout the city.
“Its first year of success will be celebrated at the Colston Hall and it now has some solid foundations to go from strength to strength with all the new partnerships that have been created.”
Tickets are now on sale for £5 at the Colston Hall box office for performances from 7pm on Thursday 27th August. The programme includes:
FUSION – from the musical influences of 30s and 70s jazz to rock, classical and Latin American music. Performed by an unique band of musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra and the brightest young talent from Bristol, the concert showcases music composed by members of Bristol’s Creative Orchestra and artist Kufu (Adrian Valera) – whose work fuses influences from classical, rock, latin and film.
The Creative Orchestra is a project run by the Philharmonia and Remix for young musicians in Bristol aged
13-19. During the May school holiday they worked with top tutors and musicians to mix styles and ideas, creating exciting new music. The music created by the young people during this week has been scored for a joint performance by the orchestras at the Colston Hall.
