Vernon Coaker MP (pictured), the Minister of State for Schools and Learners will be in Bristol on Wednesday 23rd September where he will be visiting Bristol Metropolitan Academy to meet with its new Principal Stephen Taylor. The Bristol Metropolitan Academy opened this September, replacing Bristol Metropolitan College, the new school built under the Building Schools for the Future programme on the site of the Whitefield Fishponds Community School. It joins John Cabot Academy and Bristol Brunel Academy in the John Cabot Learning Federation.
Bristol Metropolitan has joined the 8 other academies already in Bristol and hopes to achieve the same successes. Kerry McCarthy, MP for Bristol East will be accompanying the Minister on his visit. Speaking about academies in Bristol Kerry said:
“Academies exemplify what the Government is trying to do to improve educational standards in deprived areas. Other schools in my constituency such as City Academy have seen huge improvements since reopening as academies and I look forward to seeing Mr. Taylor realise his vision for Bristol Met.”
Steve Taylor Principal of Bristol Metropolitan Academy said: “I am delighted that both Vernon Coaker and Kerry McCarthy are coming so soon into the academic year to see the excellent start the students and staff here at Bristol Met have made. We are looking forward to offering them a warm welcome and a taste of the enormous potential the students here have for outstanding learning.”
David Carter Executive Principal of the John Cabot Learning Federation said: “The Cabot Learning Federation represents the model of schools working in partnership together that the government is so keen to encourage. I am delighted that Bristol Metropolitan Academy is joining John Cabot and Bristol Brunel Academies and I am pleased that we can show the Education Minister how well the federation is working to support teachers and young people in East Bristol”
