Bristol Museum seal of approval
School groups visiting Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery and Blaise Castle House Museum receive a top quality service from the museum team – that’s the verdict of the Heritage Education Trust who have just awarded the team the prestigious Sandford Award.
The Sandford Award is a nationally recognised benchmark award for quality.
An independent panel of judges drawn from professional educationalists examined the museum’s booking and organisational procedures for school groups. They also observed staff as they worked with school groups and carried out interviews with the learning staff.
Bristol’s museums now join 200 other historical and cultural places of interest in the UK who have received the coveted Sandford Award.
Museum Learning Manager, Sandra Stancliffe, said; “We are pleased and proud to have achieved this prestigious award.
“The Sandford Award recognises the hard work and professionalism of the museum’s learning team. It is also an indication of the high quality of service visiting school groups can expect to receive when they come to the museum. We have outstanding collections, which thanks to all our staff help to inspire, enhance and further extend children’s learning and knowledge.
“In the last school year, we had over 40,000 school children visit our museums. We understand the unique role museums can play in supporting children’s learning and stimulating children’s interests and are delighted that the quality of our work with schools has been recognised by this award.”
Earlier this year the city museum and art gallery were awarded the ‘Learning outside the Classroom’ quality badge by the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom.
