Entry now open for 3rd Bristol Short Story Prize
The 3rd Bristol Short Story Prize was officially launched on Wednesday (November 18th). The Bristol Short Story Prize offers a great opportunity for writers to get published, see their work for sale on the high street and have their writing read by experienced publishers and writers.
20 stories will be short listed by the judges and published in the Bristol Short Story Prize Anthology Vol 3 which will be available for all bookshops to stock. The anthology will be launched at an awards ceremony hosted by Arnolfini in Bristol. The winning author and two runners up will also be announced on the night and cash prizes will be presented to all 20 short listed writers.
The 2010 judging panel includes Maia Bristol (UK Sales Manager at Faber & Faber), award-wining writer Tania Hershman (highly commended in the 2009 Orange Prize for her collection ‘The White Road and other stories’) and author, illustrator and cartoonist Joe Berger.
Last year’s Prize, won by Australian writer Elizabeth Jane, saw entries arrive from all over the world. The short list also featured writers from Canada and USA. The first two BSSP Anthologies have been selling from both chain and independent bookshops in towns and cities across the U.K. including Brighton, Liverpool, London, Leicester, Cardiff, Manchester, Guildford, Swansea, Oxford, Bristol and Bath as well as online. Writers featured in the anthologies have since gone on to win other prizes and achieve further publication. Tim Weaver, shortlisted in the first anthology, will have his debut novel published by Penguin in January 2010.
